RED SUN SHOTOKAN KARATE - KYU GRADING On Thursday 15th September, 2011 selected students from the Red Sun Dojo took part in the Red Sun Kyu Grade Examinations at the Red Sun Dojo in Coppull. Under the watchful eyes of Red Sun Chief Instructor Sensei Peter Bibby, 10 students successfully passed their kyu grading and took the next step up the Shotokan ladder. Under the watchful eyes of Red Sun Chief Instructor Sensei Peter Bibby, 5th Dan and guest examiner Simon Blakeney, 3rd Dan three students successfully passed their Dan grading after a draining and physically testing examination. SALE DOJO KATA COMPETITION On Sunday 17th July, 2011 we were once again invited to our good friend Ian Swain's Sale Dojo for his Annual Kata Competition. Despite being a very small competition which is ideal for inexperienced students with little or no competitions under their belt, Sale Dojo has a number of England Kata Squad members who all take part.

On Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th June, 2011 the European Championships for Regions took place in Ankara, Turkey. After two days of written exams and then two days of practical assessments. Sensei Peter Bibby was awarded European Karate Federation Kata Judge 'A'. Along with achieving the top Kata Qualification in Europe, Sensei Peter was also selected to Judge in two finals making the tournament a huge success.


On Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th April, 2011 the English Karate Federation National Championships took place at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield. The British Karate Association was represented by a number of representatives from different parts of the country including three from the Red Sun. On her first ever appearance at the Nationals, the superb Megan Winstanley battled her way to a fantastic Bronze Medal in the 10-13yrs Cadet Kata. With a large number of competitors from the highly successful Ishin Ryu, this was an absolutely fantastic result. The two Sensei's were also in action over the two day Championships. Firstly, Sensei Peter Lee Bibby was selected as one of the 6 Tatmi Chief's who are responsible for the smooth running of a particular competition area as well as assessing the different Officials for their Referee/Judge Qualifications. Sensei Peter was also selected for the 2 Senior Kata Finals on Saturday evening and 5 Kumite Finals which took place on the Sunday. Sensei Mark Winstanley on the other hand was under assessment for the entire two days. Following successful written and practical assessments at the last Referee course, Mark was assessed on Kata Judging and Kumite Judging over the two days and successfully passed E.K.F. Kata Judge 'B' and E.K.F. Kumite Judge 'A'. This was another fantastic achievement by members of Red Sun Shotokan Karate.
