SALE DOJO KATA COMPETITION
SALE DOJO, MANCHESTER

SUNDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER, 2009

Congratulations to the Red Sun Squad who competed at the Sale Dojo Kata Championships on Sunday 20th September, 2009. A small squad of eight entered including four new squad members. Craig 'I'm too old' Donley and Gemma Holland gave some excellent performances in the first round only to lose out in the second round to very strong opponents.

In the lower grade section, both Brandon Cadd and Megan Winstanley gave excellent performances to make it to the semi-finals. Brandon unfortunately lost out to a very strong opponent and had to settle for a very good Bronze in his first competition but Megan sailed into the Final only to narrowly lose out and come away with a fantastic Silver medal in her first ever competition.

In the intermediate section, there was another Bronze for Sam Donley after another steady performance. With a little hard work things could get even better next time.

In possibly the toughest section of the day, Charlotte Tait, Jessica Hill and Callum Hesketh came up against some top opposition. In the first round, Callum sailed through as did Charlotte and Jess after superb performances that blew the opposition away. This continued all the way to the Semis with Callum losing out to Jessica Hill and then in a tough contest in the Final, Charlotte narrowly took the Gold from Jess who came away with Silver and Callum coming away with Bronze making it a fantastic 1-2-3.

With 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze as well as Sensei Mark and Sensei Wes trying out the Judges chair and Sensei Jo making sure everyone was going into battle with the right tactics, Sensei has gone home with a massive smile on his face.

NORTHERN OPEN CLASSIC KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009
LEIGH SPORTS VILLAGE

SUNDAY 29TH MARCH, 2009

On Sunday 29th March, 2009 the Northern Open Classic Karate Championships took place at the very impressive Leigh Sports Village.  With a massive amount of competitors and a number of England and Scotland squad members competing, competition for medals was always going to be tough.  In the first Kata sections of the day, two of our medal hopes Jessica Hill and Reece Kinsey had the bad luck of being drawn against each other after breezing through the first round.  Reece took the spoils in a very close contest and managed to get through to the Semi-finals before narrowly losing out and had to settle for a very impressive 3rd place and the Bronze medal to go with it.  In the junior boys section, both James Edgerley and Sam Donley showed some impressive early form before losing out in the following rounds and narrowly missing out on the medal positions.

In the junior girls Kata it was a totally different story.  After the disappointment of not competing at the Chojinkai Children's Championships due to an administrative error earlier in the month, Laura Kinsey blew her opposition away in every way and stormed her way into the final and took all the honours winning the Gold in an impressive fashion.

It was then time for the Kumite and once again our two little pyscho's Reece & Callum fought very well narrowly missing out on the medal places.  Possibly one of the most satisfying events of the day was the junior boys kumite.  With James Edgerley and Sam Donley getting the Bronze and Silver medals respectively at last years event, I hoping they would go one better this year and they didn't disappoint.  Both James and Sam fought there way through to the final which saw a re-match of three previous semi-finals in which Sam had taken the spoils every time.  However, the first win of the year went to James Edgerley who took the Gold in a narrowly contested final.

LAURA KINSEY - 2ND PLACE JUNIOR GIRLS KATA
SAM DONLEY - 3RD PLACE JUNOR BOYS KATA
